Plastic Storage Bin

Would it be a good idea to store onions in a big plastic storage bin lined w/ styrofoam?

The garage gets below freezing, and we have field mice that come in in the winter. I know the onions need some air circulation. Any better ideas?

Hang them from the rafters in a mesh or burlap bag. If the tops are still on them, tie them together with string and hang them up.

This will make it harder for the mice to get to them and they will have good circulation. Freezing is another problem and it would be better to keep them in a cool place in the house.
