Nest what you can, and put the covers in a clear plastic bag, sorted by size. This way you can keep the bag in the cupboard or pantry on a shelf or in a drawer.
You may also wish to keep them (the bottoms) all in a larger container which you can pull out from the shelf to find just the right one!
I have a LOT of plastic containers, and it drives me nuts if they are disorganized. So I sort the containers by shape and size – they all go on a shelf. For example, all the round containers go together, small ones inside the larger ones, so that there is only 1 stack of that shape.
Then for the lids, I have large drawer that is pretty deep. I have dividers inside the drawer – cut specifically to fit the drawer, they create several compartments. So I can sort the lids according to shapes, and store them on their sides so I can see at a glance what I have… picture an office drawer with hanging files, the lids are stored straight up and down like the files.
I know it is borderline obssessive, but it works and everything stays neat without too much effort!
