Has anyone else noticed that large, plastic storage contains can smell like charcoal or lighter fluid? Why?
I’ve purchase plastice storage containers for cloths and when I grab them, there is an overwhelming scent of something similar to like Charcoal or lighter fluid. It’s a very unusual smell to me coming from an empty plastic container. Maybe I need to be medicated or something but has anyone else noticed this or is it just me?

It’s whatever they use in the final step of the container preparation – it’s kind of oily, so just give it a good wash.
Plastic is made from a number of chemicals, but mostly oils.
Oils are also the main ingredient of lighter fluid, and the some charcoal have a lighter fluid already on them.
So, you are likely smelling the oils, whcih may be similar, or even the same in the lighter fluid and the container.
